Speaking Your Mind
Hello,
This the first blog post of the site Popular Landscape. The web site is a place where people can speak their minds about topics relating to music, celebrities, news, politics, and more to come. There is a question that I must ask. What does it mean to speak your mind? How far can we, and are we suppose to take it?
When one looks to popular media, they will find all types of people who are paid to speak their minds. In a great number they become well off, or at least able to support themselves. Why are they different from the general population? What qualifies a person to speak on a particular topic? I feel too often that views just accept the person talking on the television or radio. At time I sit and say, ‘what makes this news anchor such an authority on fiscal policy?’ Even if the person talking does have some credentials, it is only one person talking. Many of these issues tend to have many very complicated view points, which the media love to put it in a nice package where a democrat and a republican yell at each other. They probably go and have a cocktail latter that same evening.
In general observation, humans are social animals, and in order to be social one must communicate. Nothing ever got done by people being timid. It does not even have to be good communication. One example is the radio host, Rush Limbaugh. He takes a very aggressive stance on many topics in the political world. Even calling out president Obama, and creating mass communication euphuisms, which is ok in America as long a the FCC doesn’t hear too much of it.
Basically, what is means to ‘speak your mind,’ is to take a chance. Commonly you are not the only one who feels that way, and if you are then you’re and outlaw. And some think that’s sexy.
